Heaton Mersey Greenspaces
Volunteers working together to make Heaton Mersey an even better place to live in
This is a small website for volunteers working in Heaton Mersey’s four green spaces: Heaton Moor Park and Bowl, Heaton Mersey Common, and Mersey Vale Nature Park. It’s main purpose is to give additional publicity to the task days volunteers organise and run.
The Heaton Mersey Village Conservation Group (HMVCG) supports the volunteers Visit the HMVCG website to read about our green space and heritage assets. Examples: discussion of a bio-mass wood fuel processing plant proposed for Battersea Road industrial estate; news and photos of the ‘Woodland Walk’ project to improve Mersey Vale Nature Park (awarded money from the Tesco’s ‘Bags of Help’ fund); maps of Heaton Mersey green spaces & local walks you can download; all the listed buildings in the Heaton Mersey Conservation Area (plus pix of each). And that’s just a few examples – If you are a local resident you will likely find something to interest you.
And if you are an HMVCG member, how about getting some good fresh air and doing some outdoor volunteering work with us? (As far as we know, there are currently no HMVCG members among us.)

About
We are a group of local people who think our greenspaces are worth caring for. We give our time to help make Heaton Mersey a better place.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
As a volunteer:
Join us on work days. Do as little or as much as you like – even an hour of your time once a month would be great! No obligation. At least two work days a month take place:
Heaton Mersey Park&Bowl – 1st Saturday of every month, any time between 1000-1300;
Mersey Vale Nature Park – 3rd Sunday of every month, any time between 1030-1300.
Plus intermittent one-off work days in all the green spaces, including Heaton Mersey Common.
As a supporter:
- Be informed about what we are doing in the Heaton Mersey green spaces we care about.
- Give us your suggestions for improvements.
- Report a problem directly to us (for example dangerous broken glass on a path), and we can deal with it ourselves or report it to the Council.
Thinking about maybe joining us? Got a question? – Click on CONTACT page on this website. If you are on the HMVCG website, you can also click on the HMVCG Contact page. (They will forward the details to us.)
The Heaton Mersey Village Conservation Group (HMVCG) gives support to the volunteers in several ways: allowing us to use HMVCG tools, publicising task days on their website, and allocating money for such things as covering our expenses and purchasing additional tools. Their continued support allows us to achieve much more in our green spaces than we would be able to do without it.
Please note that we work under the umbrella of the HMVCG, but we are considered separate from it: “There is no formal connection between the HMVCG and the volunteers” (HMVCG Secretary). And we are not considered members: “Volunteers are not members” (HMVCG Chairman).
